Intern Profile

I want to be garden intern because....

  • For the experience and to earn some money.

One of our primary goals for the garden is to provide fresh produce to the Willamette Valley Food Assistance Program. Two of my personal goals for working at the Dallas Youth Garden this summer are:

  • Earn some money.

  • Game some work experience.

Two things I hope to learn for working at the Dallas Youth Garden are:

  • Team work.

  • Helping the community.

I think my biggest challenge will be:

  • Keeping plants from weeding over.

My favorite vegetable is:

  • Sweet peppers.

My least favorite garden task is: weeding

My most favorite garden task is: harvesting.

I think a leader is: A leader is someone who follows rules yet takes charge and responsibility.

My worst leadership skill or trait is: I am impatient.

My best leadership skill or trait is: I am hard working.

Leadership Projects

Partner presentation: Lions Club

Problem: Communicating to our donors and partners about the garden and to regain sponsors.

Communication/ Solution: Presented to the Lions club about my garden and how it is doing and what exactly everyone is doing and how it improves the community.

Leadership skills enhanced: Planning, speaking/communicating to a group of sponsors.

Garden Project: Flea Beatles

Problem: Flea beattles are attacking our plants and eating the leaves and flowers to the "bone"!

Solution: To find ways to kill off these pests before they kill our gardens

Test: Place yellow sticky cups around garden, it definitely helps because you can see all the little black bugs on the cups. If that doesn't work you can also use Diatomaceous Earth.

Document: Tested the cup and my cup seems to have captured a lot of little Flea Beatles

Communication: To inform other garden workers how to kill flea beatles.

Leadership skills: Research and Communication and bettering the garden.
